>From Joy:
I don't know about the Buddha, but I remember that when I was a newly
ordinated monk, the center I lived received the visit of the Tibetan Khenpo
Tsultim Gyatso and his flock of lay disciples. As the host, we did puja
together and were allowed to listen in to the advice that the Khenpo gave to
his disciples. He sang songs by Milarepa and other yogis and encouraged his
disciples (grogs po, grogs mo) to not be in fix and steady relationships
but to freely swap around so as to not become attached. I remember this
created quite a buzz in the center and quite a lot of unhappiness among the
more attachment prone. Or perhaps this was merely the spin and propaganda
for the monks and nuns in our community... :-) But this teaching method only
lasted one summer. The next summers (he visited every summer) it was back to
the more traditional methods.
Perhaps that abbot was trying out a little Rajneeshi.
