I don't have lots of time these days to delve, but the Baghdad story is
intriguing --partly because it suggests an opposite to the Spain and the
Moors story, where Muslims ruled but were driven out by a different
religious bunch, whereas in Baghdad the Muslims ruled, but changed their
tune eventually and drove out the kaffirs.

Dan, what is your reference for your al Biruni remarks (besides al Biruni),
especially the bit about his trying to prevent a big massacre of some sort?
