Brief added note to Lance's comments.

The Āgamas preserved in Chinese also confirm that Aṅgulimāla was a Brāhmaṇa 
(see passage from Chuyao jing, below), but some give him a different 'birth 
name,' which at least one claims he recovered after conversion.

According to some accounts, Aṅgulimāla's birth name was Ahiṃsaka (One who 
does not Harm). Here the BZA uses Ahiṃsaka as his Dhamma name implying, lie 
the gāthā below, that he reclaimed the name after his conversion. See the 
Yangjuemo jing 鴦掘摩經 (T.02.118.0510a17); 吾今名無害 ("now I call myself 
Ahiṃsaka"). Also the Zengyi ahan jing 增一阿含經 (我本名無害 ["my name 
originally was Ahiṃsaka"] (T.2.125.721b09)) and the Chuyao jing 出曜經 (彼時去國界不遠，有梵志子，名曰無害 ["at that time, not far from the country he had left, there 
was a brāhmaṇa named Ahiṃsaka"] (T.4.212.703a25-26).
