You described one of your therapists this way:

That was funny. Too bad it didn't work out: such great transference  
potential there!

In my view, transference (an example of the workings of the  
unconscious, btw) is one of the fundamental pillars of Buddhism.  
Without it, the whole Zen thing just doesn't work. Vajrayana too.
