Me too--it's _Old Path, White Clouds_ Parallax Press, 1991  The author cites
all his canonical sources, both Pali canon and Taisho.
I hope this bit doesn't start up another discussion about "was the Buddha a
real person, a historical figure, etc...reading the legend is elevating and
edifying (if I may revert to Victorian terms, here :), and comforting.

I like Thich Naht Hahn's "Long Path, White Cloud" (If that is the correct
name of it -- I am way up here in the mountains, fighting snow, far from my
books).
