Interesting, Piya. However, if a local Buddhist girl married a Muslim, had
kids, then they got divorced, he gets the sons when they reach a certain
age, regardless of her or their feelings. Meanwhile, the man has remarried
(bachelors are not approved of in Islam) so the kids now have a stepmother
and her kids to deal with. The kids should have been allowed to stay with
their mother. But not under sharia.

============================

The shariah (or sharia) applies only to Muslims (hope Williams knows that).
In Malaysia,
there is this twin system: both shariah and secular (from the British
system). Let's say if a Buddhist girls sleeps with a married Muslim guy, the
latter is punished but not the former.

If Hudud is introduced (the majority has opposed although the radical
Islamist PAS party is trying to introduce it), then they can chop off hands
and legs of those they consider as wrong-doers.

Islamic banking on other hand is more compassionate than the western style
we have.
You don't spend the rest of your life feeding the bank for a loan you took
(like what I've done on my house).

Assalammualaikum wa rahmat buddha wahi barakatu (Peace be upon you and the
blessings of the Buddha's goodness, more or less)

Imam Piya

(When I was a monk in Malaysia, they local Muslims actually called me an
"imam,"
for that's the closest word they could think of. But that was over 20 years
ago.)
