Well, I have a little more information now, although I had better not
mention any sources.
It seems that there have been demonstrations in Mandalay as well as
Rangoon, although the former do not seem to have been reported much
on the international media.
It also seems that some monasteries have been effectively shut down
with the monks taken away, presumably into custody, in the nighttime.
The monasteries involved in the demonstrations include some that do
not admit temporary monks. So the unrest certainly extends rather
more widely than just to 'novices'.
We note also the high price of rice at the present time. In Burma !
That has to be economic mismanagement if ever there was.
