  Thanks, Lance.I am aware that Prof Dhammavihari question the accuracy of the Mahavamsa story in "Recording, Translating and Interpreting Sri Lankan Chronicle Data". The story in Mahavamsa, it seems, contradict the story in the Commentary to Digha Nikaya, Sumangalavilasini.
  
So, the translation of Dutthagamani usisng his enemy's mother as hostage is correct?
