Another way of "reading" the Sutta Nipata quote below, which IMHO, might
be its real meaning... -
"What you eat cannot purify your mind -
but is there greed behind your choice of eating? [including meat]
If yes, the mind that eats is not pure -
be your choice vegetarian or not."

I think you'll like this one better than the Lanka:
Anger, arrogance, inflexibility, hostility, deception, envy,
pride, conceit, bad company,
these are impure foods, not meat.
