What us old farts use to call an idea, a notion, even a hypothesis.
There's this school of thought that sees memes as analogous to genes
in the biological sphere, as self-maintaining and self-replicating
entities that try to survive by spawning new variants and pushing
competing memes out of the way. Richard Dawkins has been quite
prominent on this particular bandwagon.
