_Amongst White Clouds_, by Edward A. Burger, about hermit Chan monks in the 
Zhongnan Mountains of China. Burger learned Chinese before he went hiking 
into the mountains to meet and film a few of these monks and their ways of 
practice.

_The Giant Buddhas_ by Christian Frei, et al. about the Bamian Buddhas and 
their eventual destruction by Taliban (actually it was Saudis and Pakistanis 
who finally figured out how to explode them, the Taliban were only able to 
do small stuff).
