Am enclosing a notice of the death of Francis Dojun
Cook from Brian Nagata (the Director of the Numata
Center for Buddhist Translation and Research). Dr.
Cook was a Dharma practitioner, and made important
scholarly contributions in the area of Chinese
Buddhism (especially Hua-yen) and Japanese Buddhism
(especially Dogen and Keizan).

"It is with deepest sadness that I inform you of the
passing of our beloved Dr. Francis Cook, who served as
an advisor to our Numata Chair Coordinating Committee
and as Publication Committee Chairman of the BDK
English Tripitaka Project.

Dr. Cook passed away on Friday morning, March 24th at
his home in Riverside, California, where he was
surrounded by his beloved family and cats. Buddhist
Funeral and Memorial Services are being held this
evening at his home with family and close friends and
I will be attending on behalf of our Numata Chair
Coordinating Committee and the Numata Center.

Each of our lives and our continuing work to share the
Buddha-Dharma with the world were truly blessed with
the presence and contributions of Dr. Cook.

We extend our deepest sympathies to his wife Betty and
their children in their loss. Dr. Cook was a pioneer
amongst western Buddhist scholars and we will deeply
miss his wealth of knowledge, wisdom and sense of
humor."
