Franz, It wouldn't be the sort of story Hakuin would tell about himself -- that would defeat the purpose. It is a well known story, and especially in the West because of the Reps book. Is it an historically verifiable account or an apocryphal tale? Who knows. Would knowing that make it a better tale? best, Dan
