In fact, many Indian Buddhists eventually concluded that there are no actual
"causes", but only various types of conditions, so that even hetu comes to
be called hetu-pratyaya (the condition 'cause'), as opposed to other types
of pratyaya, such as aalambana-pratyaya, samanatara-pratyaya, etc.
