Talking about sutras and translations, my notes say that the Lankavatara
sutra existed in three forms within China, these being translations from
Sanskrit made by Gunabhadra, another by Bodhiruci and one by Silshanada.
While these three are similar, they are said to differ widely from the
Sanskrit version used by Suzuki for his English language translation.
Any idea how the differences came about? Were there two Sanskrit versions
of the Lankavatara sutra? Thanks.
Regards
Kate
