Hi Mitchell,
I seem to have missed something. What texts claim that Buddhas
only cry but don't laugh? or are capable only of depression not joy?
To give only one instance, many of the Japanese Zen monk poets
were certainly capable of both and wrote about it. One of them loved
playing games with the local kids. Others loved hanging out under
cherry blossom trees and wrote about it as an experience of joy.
