[Buddha-l] 'Sons of Brahma, sons of Buddha?'

I have a vague recollection of a Hindu use to call brahmins 'sons of
Brahma'. Is this correct? Does this use extend to Buddhism? Is 'son'
to be understood in the sense of 'pupil'?
