Dear All,

In his review of Ananda W. P. Gurugé's monumental book [ Aśoka, the
Righteous: A Definitive Biography, Colombo 1993] Richard Gombrich remarks:

<<A point of added interest is that Guruge has a new theory
(already published elsewhere) about how the inscriptions should be
grouped and articulated; he suggests that what gave him this
insight was his experience as "a drafter of official circulars
for the consumption of large bureaucracies and the public" (p.
xi).>> [Journal of the Royal Asiatic Society, Third Series, Vol. 6, No. 1
(Apr., 1996), p. 118]

Could anyone, please, comment on the enigmatic phrase "(already published
elsewhere)"?

I'd be very grateful for relevant bibliographical info on what was already
"published elesewhere".

Regards,

Artur Karp
