Thank you for your paper on hua-t'ou.
As another resource on this topic, I highly recommend "How Zen Became Zen: The Dispute Over Enlightenment and the Formation of Chan Buddhism in Song-Dynasty China," by Morten Schlutter. He explores hua-tou and Ta-hui, as well as Cáodòng and Linji lineage formation and conflicts, in depth and with interesting and insightful findings.
