It has been my experience over the years that few have egos as bloated as those who deny the reality of the self. Still, I reckon that among the potential failings a human being can have, few are less dangerous than an ego. I think the Buddhists focused on the non-self doctrine because by the time they came on the scene all the sensible positions had already been taken.
