Aloha,
   I, too, prefer the "slim and trim" version.
   As someone recently noted, there are workarounds for italics such as 
using a beginning and ending underscores.
   As for filling our inboxes with attached or embeded .jpg and other 
files, please, please do not do this.  Many of us have strict e-mail 
quotas.  Links to photos or articles online are fine.
