Erik speaks wisely. The Buddha consistently took a stand against taking a stand. There are, of course, as many Buddhas as there are Buddhists, so one cannot be too dogmatic about what "the" Buddha would approve. My Buddha would frown upon the hysterical Islamophobia of the inventors of the Kālacakra and upon 21st century Buddhists who politicize religion. Above all, he would frown on Republicans.
