Interesting suggestion: first hack the NYT and then leave a
poster of the Confucian Institute as a sign. :-) But seriously: I
agree that this article is full of ambiguities and paradoxes.
Perhaps a good idea for a new Harry Potter story, or perhaps a
new book about the Karmapa code?

What an intriguing idea--a book called The Karmapa Code.
I bet you could write it, too :)

Speaking of the Chinese currency found with him, I could imagine
that when he fled to India he took a big bunch of it with him.
However, the idea that a 14 year old couldn't be a spy is
silly--many 14 year olds are first-rate spies. Anyone with a
teenager knows this.
