[Buddha-l] Does 'momentariness' remove emotion from citta?

An understanding of citta taken from the Suttas clearly includes emotion. In the Satipatthana Sutta 'the monk sees a mind with hate as with hate..' Citta was therefore rendered in the old Pali-English dictionary as 'seat of the emotions' as well as thought, as has commonly been seen as 'heart-mind.'

However some modern translators such as Sue Hamilton and Margaret Cone (Dictionary of
Pali) seem to want to render citta as 'thought/ process of thought / state of
mind' and miss out its 'heart' aspect. I was wondering if an unfortunate consequence of Abhidhamma over-theorizing, in turning citta into a series of 'thought-moments,' is that emotion ends up being removed from citta. Any comments? Is this something the Mahayana was conscious of and sought to redress?
