I recommend neither top-posting or bottom-posting, but rather interspersing comments with the original post being commented upon. Ideally, the commentator will delete everything from the original message except the sentences actually being responded to. The main thing to avoid is including someone else's message in its entirety in one's reply. A good model to follow is the way Lusthaus formats his responses. He follows a standard that has become the norm in e-mail discussion lists of this type. Following that norm takes some effort, but it helps avoid confusion and needless repetition.
