There will be a Hakuin Symposium at the Japan Society of New York
on November 4th from 6:30PM to 8:30PM that will include the
showing of a newly discovered painting of Kannon Bodhisattva by
Hakuin and discussion of the religious import of this work,
expanding to a broader discussion of Hakuin as Zen monk and as
painter.
The symposium will be led by Yoshizawa Katsuhiro, professor of
Zen Studies at Hanazono University, Yamashita Yuji, professor of
Art History at Meiji Gakuin University, and Thomas Kirchner, Zen
Monk and Associate Researcher in Zen Studies, Hanazono
University.
