Batchelor's move from agnosticism to atheism is not one I am
likely to follow, but I admire him for taking the stands he
takes.

Not so fast, Richard: Batchelor points out in his latest book
that he objects to the common/popular use of the term atheism. He
says that most atheists today should instead say they are
"anti-theists," since they spend a lot of time and money ranting
against religions of any stripe.
He on the other hand views the term atheist literally, to be
translated as "non-theist." He says that's what he is. A
non-theist.
His book title is likely to mislead a lot of folks who would read
it except that he seems to be coming across in that title as the
garden variety atheist, with whom he doesn't identify.
