Due to Hebrew sandhi rules (yes, Hebrew also has sandhi rules) the second 
letter of the Hebrew alphabet, bet (b sound) is pronounced like a "v" 
instead of a "b" when not the strong initial of a syllable, so the actual 
Hebrew pronunciation of the patriarch's name is avraham -- not abraham.

So much for false cognates. You are not the first person to want to tie them 
together.
