So, there were Buddhists believing that giving support to the North
Vietnamese government (with its gulags etc.) was a good thing. And
that it was - what - a dharmic act? - to even burn themselves to death
--- as agents of the communist regime?

Powerful images, most powerful. I remember myself just hating the
South Vietnamese regime, and hating the Americans for what they were
doing there.
