The Times article links to the paper, "The Aitken-Shimano Letters" that Vlad
K. and I did jointly at the end of last year.

An article that for fear of lawsuit was never published in the Village Voice
in 1982 gives
an interesting view of the Zen Studies Society as well as the author's
personal encounter with Shimano,
which prompted her writing the article.

What may be of interest is an August 9, 1995 letter to the President of the
Board of Directors of the Zen Studies Society from Aitken, Kapleau, and six
other Zen teachers outlining "three decades" of hearing of
Shimano breaking the trust of his students, manipulative, exploitative, and
damaging relationsips...

To date, the archive goes through 8/02/2010 ending with
Robert Aitken's last interview (audio only), three days before he died with
excerpts
from his comments on Eido Shimano.
For those interested in following the issue in more depth, the full archive
of 335 files is avaiable at,

The article has gone "viral" on the internet, see
