[Buddha-l] women & , er, religion

A bit of info on the Jodo Shinshu tradition. Yes, there are female
ministers in Japan. There are also female ministers in the BCA
(Buddhist Churches of America, the main Jodo Shinshu organization).
There's at least one in Canada, as well (she's a Japanese minister who
emigrated). Just some props for Jodo Shinshu--which doesn't get enough
of them as far as I'm concerned.

Generally speaking, Mahayana lineages fully ordain women. Theravada
lineages do not. There's much information out there on this historical
situation, if you look. But it's depressing, so instead I suggest
sending out metta-filled thoughts to the misogynist Buddhist leaders
throughout space and time.

Can't hurt,

Franz
