Dharamsala, Feb. 1: His Holiness the Dalai Lama is scheduled to deliver
the inaugural keynote address for this year’s India Today Conclave, an
international forum for ideas and debate, to be held in New Delhi later
in March this year.

“Conclave 2009: Challenges of Change,” presented by /India Today/, one
of India’s leading weekly magazines, seeks to call for a timely rethink
to meet challenges of change in a world, which, according to its
organizers, is getting “bogged down by stagnant politics and redundant
ideological wars”.

The exiled Tibetan leader, who won the Nobel peace Prize in 1989 for his
non-violent and peaceful approach to resolve Tibet’s issue through
dialogue with China, will deliver his keynote address on the topic “The
Moral Imperatives of Change” on the opening session of a two-day conclave.

Calling Dalai Lama as the spiritual and temporal leader of Tibetan
people, /India Today/ describes the Tibetan leader as recipient of
“hundreds of awards, honorary doctorates, prizes and the Nobel Peace
Prize in recognition of his message of peace, non-violence,
inter-religious understanding, universal responsibility and compassion.”

The magazine’s Editor-in-Chief Aroon Purie will chair the Dalai Lama’s
talk session.

India Today Conclave 2009, which will be the eighth in a series started
in 2002 to celebrate the magazine’s 25th publication anniversary, will
be held at New Delhi’s Taj Palace Hotel on March 6-7.

The influential weekly magazine calls its forthcoming conclave a
platform to bring together world leaders and finest minds in their
respective fields to “discuss debate and offer solutions to issues that
plague the world”.

A host of world leaders and outstanding speakers from India and abroad
are set to take part in the forthcoming conclave.

While the Dalai Lama will give the inaugural address, former President
of Pakistan Gen. Pervez Musharraf will give the concluding keynote
address on “The Challenges of Change.”

Dominique De Villepin, former French Prime Minister; Garry Kasparov,
world chess champion & political activist and Haiyan Wang, Co-Founder,
China India Institute, are other key speakers for the 2009 conclave.

Besides, Pushpa Kamal Dahal (Prachanda), Prime Minister of Nepal; Anil
Ambani, Chairman, Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group; Bollywood stars
like Shahrukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra, and Film Director and TV Anchor
Karan Johar, and experts from Scotland Yard, FBI and Mossad are its
other likely speakers.

At the India Today Conclave 2009, its organizers say, speakers will
“discuss and debate matters that call for sweeping changes in India and
the world.”

According to the organizers, the conclave speakers will debate the “need
for a renewed leadership and new ideas that could make this century not
a copy of the day before but a blueprint for the future”.

Al Gore, 45th Vice-President of the United States of America; A.P.J.
Abdul Kalam, former President of India; US Senator Hillary Clinton,
Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai; German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder;
former Prime Minister of Pakistan Benazir Bhutto, former President of
Iran Hujjat–ul–Islam Seyed Mohammad Khatami, Nobel Peace Laureate Dr
Wangari Maathai and Dr Andrew T. Weil and the pioneer of Genomic
Research Dr J. Craig Venter have been some of the key speakers at India
Today Conclave in the past.
