Dan,

I pasted the passage into the google translation machine - gosh, what a 
jumbled mess!!

And thanks for the correction, though I'm going to hold off accepting this 
for awhile.  My source regarding the lama definition is usually very 
reliable and he did say that the landlord etc meanings weren't well known in 
the West.  I'm not saying that he is correct but I'll dig around a bit more 
before discounting his information.
