She wrote me a much longer e-mail than she wrote Jayarava. She ended  
it by saying that academics are obviously a thin-skinned  
hypersensitive lot who need to get out more. My guess is that her  
shoulders are becoming stooped from carrying around that huge chip.

I replied by quoting a quip of a Buddhist friend of mind who once  
attended an academic conference with me and characterized academic  
discussion as "a non-contact blood sport."
