Gary Snyder built a zendo on his place in the California
mountains, and called it "Ring of Bone".
He knew (knows) most if not all of the other poets mentioned so
far, many of whom (epsecially Reed connections) used to get
together with him regularly up in the hills. His place attracted
lots of people many of whom also bought pieces of land up there
and built, or dwelled (old school bus, tents...), around there.

Gang,

As Gary mentions, Lew Welch belongs in the first rung of Buddhist
poets of the 20th century. His poem, "Ring of Bone" is so perfect
and so short I can't help sharing it.

Please go and check out Gary's truly profound collection of all
the poets we've mentioned and many more:

Ring of Bone

I saw myself
a ring of bone
in the clear stream
of all of it

and vowed,
always to be open to it
that all of it
might flow through

and then heard
"ring of bone" where
ring is what a

bell does
