Maybe neither. The priest represents the Pope and he represents God, but it's still you who is doing the soul searching and the confessions. So all evil is interiorised. I'm not saying Protestantism is not individualised, perhaps even more than Catholicism, but that doesn't mean Catholicism is not invividualistic at all.
