The remark naag.rhžta-vis¹es¹a.naa vis¹e.sye buddhi.h is found with verb
variation in many philosophical texts. upasa.mkraamati, upajaayate,
utpadyate, bhavati etc. are the attested verbs. See Kevalananda Sarasvatii's
Mimamsa-kosa, part 4, p. 2308-10, where the sentence or phrase has rightly
been described as a nyaaya 'interpretive maxim.' The oldest occurrence known
at present seems to be in Kumaarila's Tantra-vaarttika.

In tri-yaana-vyavasthaanam aabhipraayika.h na lak.sa.nikam, the second word
should end in ka.m and the fourth should begin with laa (mere typos, I
suppose).
