A number of years ago when I loved in New York I went to a Thai
temple and talked with a Thai monk about Buddhism, and spiritual
matters. The monk also shared some amusing stories about "farangs"
(white folks) who had become monks in Thailand. He offered that
possibility to me, as well, although I did not take it up.
I was looking for instruction in meditation at that time and asked
for instruction. This monk told me that was not his strength and
offered to refer me to a Sri Lankan monk whom he thought would be a
good teacher.
