Gang,

Many thanks to Bill for the link to that fascinating study <http://pewresearch.org/pubs/301/are-we-happy-yet
 >. Much food for thought there for Buddhists. I found myself
guffawing and talking back to the article at many points, especially
as it was so well written.

I was not surprised by any of it except the parenting aspect. I would
have expected being a parent (controlling for other factors,
especially marriage and money--I'm not surprised single parents score
low) to have been strongly associated with happiness. I'm puzzled. But
I should add that, though I'm a parent, I myself would have answered I
was happy but not "very happy." Still, I quickly add this is not
Pearl's fault but the result of something lying deep within my
proliferating mind.

Richard, shall we take the survey's implicit recommendation and jump
on the elephant's back?

Franz
