Tung Lin Kok Yuen Canada Foundation Chair in Buddhism and
Contemporary Society
The University of British Columbia (Vancouver campus) invites
applications for The Tung Lin Kok Yuen Canada Foundation Chair in
Buddhism and Contemporary Society.
The Tung Lin Kok Yuen Canada Foundation Program coordinates and
promotes the study of Buddhism as it has relevance for the world
today, particularly with regard to issues of public policy and
social justice.
The holder of the Chair will teach undergraduate and graduate
courses in Buddhism, and Religion & Public Policy. The Chair will
also organize an annual public lecture and convene an annual
conference on Buddhism and Contemporary Society.
Applicants are expected to have a Ph.D. in a relevant field and
demonstrated excellence in teaching and research on Buddhism and
its application in the contemporary world. Applicants must have
the ability to conduct research in at least one of the major
languages of Buddhism in addition to English.
The successful candidate for the Chair will be appointed at the
rank of assistant professor (tenure track). This appointment is
shared between the Institute of Asian Research in the College for
Interdisciplinary Studies and the Department of Asian Studies in
the Faculty of Arts. Salary will be commensurate with the
qualifications and experience of the candidate.
The anticipated start date is July 1, 2009.

research interests, a current curriculum vitae, a sample of
published research, evidence of teaching effectiveness, and the
names and addresses of three referees. Applications should be
