After a while I felt pretty comfortable reading early forms of nearly any of
the Germanic languages. I also bluffed my way through the Princeton German
exam largely on the basis of my knowledge of the Beowulf and other early
sagalike materials.

Wow! 
If only I could do that with Sanskrit by knowing some Hindi or Bengali.
Problem is, I don't know enough of those two.
David Loy doesn't read this blog, so can we leave him out of it?
