IMO *deliberately* trying to create a "Western Buddhism", "American
Buddhism", "Agnostic Buddhism" or whatever (and especially thinking or
claiming that this is somehow "superior" or more rational) is just as
delusional as dressing up "in all of the appropriate regalia" and trying to
become a "mock Tibetan or pseudo-Japanese".

==================
Agreed.
Doing this is typical of what's going down in the USA, anyway. Don't know
about the EU. Everybody is totally hung up on "identity" these days:
Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Jews, Christians....maybe even Santeria-ists,
dunno. (Identity issues are even among the biggie research topics with
graduate anthroplogy students! Good grief.)
Colossal waste of energy. Too many people have been so brainwashed by
branding in the consumer economies of today, that they must at all costs
work out some group identity for themselves or their own little group. Ergo,
continual dukkha.
