  I don't remember anything about eight factors, but I do remember another list:
   
  The Five Levels of Cause and Effect:
   
  1.  Non living matter (physical world)
  2.  Seed (biological world)
  3.  Mind (psychological)
  4.  Karma
  5.  Dharma
   
  Note that karma is only one of 5 explanations.  Physical world includes weather and 
  other things in the natural world.
   
  This is from the Pali Canon, sorry, don't remember off-hand which Nikaya and sutta.
