The makers of GM products are perfect examples of the globalistic capitalism
that does not exemplify right livelihood.
The push is on to sell them all over the world. So far produce of whatever
kind that is GM is banned from sale in the EU.
GM seeds were controversial from the start—first for using matter alien to
the seed species to modify its genes, second for requiring huge inputs of
fertilizer and herbicides sold by the very developers of GM seeds as part of
the GM plan, and third because air-borne pollen from GM crops contaminates
organically grown crops for up to several miles around.
Fourth: buyers of GM seeds are prohibited from saving and reusing them,
being forced thereby to purchase new seeds every year, a deliberate
profit-making objective of the GM producer. This particular requirement has
been especially objectionable to people in such areas as India, say, where
thrifty farmers have saved seeds for generations.
A fifth objection: one maker of GM canola, Monsanto, tried to sue a
Canadian farmer for “saving” GM seeds when in fact his canola crop got
contaminated by GM pollen blowing into his fields. He had never used GM
seeds in the first place. The lawsuit was finally dismissed.
