I think it would be good to take a step back and define, or at least 
describe, this "resemblance"? In particular, how does Pure Land Buddhism 
"resemble" Christianity *in particular* (as opposed to any other 
religion with some kind of "salvation" - which is hardly unique to 
Christianity, nor was it in any way an original notion of Jesus' - if, 
in fact, he had any such idea).
I think it is dubious to claim that Pure Land Buddhism requires the kind 
of "explanation" you are positing that it does (that is - it contains 
ideas that are "foreign" to Buddhism so they must have come from 
somewhere else).
