Yes. _Gentle Bridges: Dialogues Between the Cognitive Sciences and
the Buddhist Tradition_ is a good intro and an exciting read (for
example they ask HHDL about beings incarnating into silicon life-
forms--robots). Varela was the person who helped inspire and start
the Mind and Life series, a series of encounters with western
scientists and HH the Dalai Lama. The aforementioned book is actually
from the first Mind and Life Conference. A number of these
conferences do have published books detailing their proceedings.
