The problem with these things is that we no longer see a democracy as a government by representation, but by mandate. So there have been referenda to ask the vox populus its opinion about things the ordinairy person never cares to think about. Of course admission of Turkey is a big opportunity for Europe in the economic and political field, but the majority is afraid of Europe being flooded with muslim beggars which cannot be thrown out anymore. The man in the street somehow likes to be afraid. For many people this globalized world is just to complicated.
But what I find most peculiar, is that many members of this forum must have been reciting all kinds of verses about compassion and wishing the best for all people. Most members have showed their admiration for the strategies of the Dalai Lama, which are based on a firm conviction of the power of compassion. But when the subject is Islam, suddenly all good intentions appear to have vanished.
Funny people, those Buddhists!
