Franz,

Don't know the origin of the story, but since Shinran (whose theology,
especially as delineated in Kyogyoshinsho, is stunningly similar to Luther
in many minor as well as overall details) predated Luther by a few centuries
(Shinran 1173-1262; Luther 1483-1546), the lament would have been misguided.
They should instead have lamented that Shinran's system had somehow reached
Luther before them...
