WylieWord is a free extension to Microsoft Word that lets you create documents
that contain Tibetan and/or non-Tibetan text. It has various
additional features
useful to Tibetan language students and translators.
A new version (2.1) is now available; we recommend that all users of previous
versions upgrade. You can download it from:
http://www.thdl.org/tools/wyword.html
Version 2.1 has two significant features added since version 2.0, plus many
small new features and fixes for minor bugs. It also runs significantly
faster. The two main new features are:
* Unicode Tibetan fonts are supported, in addition to the legacy
TibetanMachineWeb font. Unicode is a newish method of encoding multiple
languages that eliminates many technical problems, particularly in transferring
text between programs. Commands are available for converting from non-Unicode
TCC fonts (including TMW and TM) to Unicode, and from Unicode to TMW.
* Fonts (Tibetan and other) can now be selected via the usual Word mechanisms,
instead of being controlled via the Wylie Word options dialog. This eliminates
the irritation in Wylie Word 2.0 whereby it used to override your selected font
with the one in the options dialog.
If you have any problems installing or using Wylie Word, please send us email
at mailto:thdltools at virginia.edu .
(I apologize if you get multiple copies of this announcement; I'm sending it to
several groups in order to make this software available to as many people as
possible.)
