[Buddha-l] Professor Antonino Forte (1940-2006)

I might have missed mention of Professor Forte's passing on Buddha-L, 
but found this posted on H-Asia. I was privileged to know Professor 
Forte, and if this is the first news of this on Buddha-L, I'm sorry to 
be the bearer of this sad news. Nothing else has yet to appear on H-Asia.

Italian scholar, Antonion Forte, known for his contributions on the 
history of Buddhism in T'ang China and other scholarly and editorial 
contributions.  We hope that a more complete obituary, as promised in

I'm sending this on behalf of Jinhua Chen, who is  not subscribed to 
H-Asia:

Friends:

I imagine that most of you, like  me, will find it hard to believe (and
accept) this devastating news:  Antonino Forte, who always looked so 
healthy, active and energetic,  passed away suddenly in Kyoto at 3am, 
July 22, 2006, at the age of 66. It  was cancer. Nino is survived by his 
beloved wife Lilla and his daughter  Erika. Still overwhelmed by this 
great shock, we are starting  to think of some ways in which to honour 
the memory of this great scholar,  mentor and friend, who was surely one 
of the greatest Sinologists of  our age. We welcome any suggestions and 
ideas. In the meanwhile please  join us in passing on our condolences to 
Nino's family. We hope to post a  longer obituary in due course.
